FLOGS

FLOGS, are a fun time party band out of Melbourne. Made up of Ben, Mitch, Raff and Tom, there’s a good chance you have caught FLOGS playing at your local. Hazy Days would like to thank these legends for taking the time out and having a chat.

FLOGS, It looked like you had an unreal time over the summer on the "Fuck The Bus Tour", what were the some of the highlights? It was really special that you got to add a bushfire relief show into your tour, how hard was that to organise while the tour was already happening?

Yeah, it was great! We’ve been playing interstate a few times now and the guys always get up and about for it. It’s like a holiday for us and especially having Tom come out with us for the first time was even better. The highlight would have been our show at the Cactus room in Melbourne, great turnout and just a great vibe. Probably better to mention a lowlight though, getting two flat tyres and getting stuck sleeping at a petrol station in the middle of bumfuck, it was a drainer but we have a laugh and kicked on. With the bushfire show, we can completely thank brother band Lazy Sidekick for that, they put that show on and asked to play, they were amazing! Really glad they had us on board.

Having only a few songs uploaded to Triple J Unearthed, FLOGS manage to stand out over the other bands and get the attention, with each song having hundreds of plays and great reviews. Do you notice that you reach your audience better on Unearthed than SoundCloud or Band Camp?

Not Really, we put our music on triple j because it’s a good platform to release music on. If people love the tunes as much as we like making them that’s all we could ask for.

I love that all your music videos have a simple flow and the band's energy gets displayed just like you're at a FLOGS gigs. Is it difficult to come up with these ideas? Once the band is set on the idea, does it take long to plan and shoot a video?

We have a great time making videos haha! We get a real kick out of making them and try to get people having a laugh. We enjoy acting like idiots around each other, probably one of the funnest parts of being in the band! We usually just bang our heads together to come up with an idea, then our mate Bryce from BTM and band Goldsocks usually films it in a day and gets the best out of it. Keeping it simple keeps it real easy.

Tom has been a part of the band for a little bit now. I know FLOGS are currently working on some new music, is this the first chance the band has gotten to write together? It must be exciting to have some fresh ideas in the mix and adding another layer to the sound.

Fuck The Bus was the first recording with Tom on it. Getting him in the band was one of the best things the band has done. Fit like a glove. He adds that extra layer we need to all our songs and the new stuff we’ve been working on has a bit more personality thanks to him. Definitely really exciting for the future!

Can we expect any of this new music to drop soon?

After the Corona virus shit blows over, we’re keen to start pumping out some new material, we’ve got songs written that we wanna get recorded. The fellas are so keen to play gigs and record and as soon as we can, we will.
